Choose a fitting that is proportional to the table rather than the whole room. A linear light suits a long rectangular table, while a round pendant or chandelier can balance a round table. Check the full width and diameter before ordering.
A common starting point is approximately 75–90 cm from the tabletop to the bottom of the fitting. Adjust the height for the room, fixture size and sightlines so diners can see one another comfortably without glare.
One larger fitting can create a clean focal point, while several smaller pendants can spread light along a longer table. Keep multiple pendants evenly spaced and aligned with the centre of the tabletop.
Warm white light, generally around 2700K–3000K, creates a welcoming atmosphere and complements food, timber and warm finishes. Keep the colour temperature consistent with nearby living or kitchen lighting in open-plan spaces.
